COURSE BREAKDOWN

This course is the product of feedback and requests from our clients for a short, instructive set of lessons to develop freehand drawing skills. It has been developed to suit mixed ability groups and combines study of townscape and interiors. The location projects will be led by Drawing At Work tutors and architects who specialise in outdoor architectural sketching, with tips and practical instruction to improve visualisation techniques.

Studio Projects

With sketchbooks we will draw at locations within a short walk from the office and make longer trips to sites of great interest. The drawing exercises will improve your handling of tone, light and shade, perspective and scale.

We will work in sketchbooks, with groups drawing details and vistas in perspective to scale. This may include working from historical buildings in the vicinity.

All practical work will be contextualised with illustrations of artist’s and architect’s observational drawing and taught with demonstrations of techniques.

The course will conclude with a short review of completed work and discussion of practical application of what has been learnt, to encourage students to continue to sketch after the course has ended.
